A Tehachapi resident now for over four years – with husband Adam and cats Nairobi and McKinley – Alejandra was born, raised and educated in Puebla, Mexico, earning a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree from the University of Monterrey in 2003.

Along the way, her interest in design prompted her to teach herself jewelry design, often incorporating the use of metals and natural stones.

The idea of Stone Disegno started in 2005 while she was working abroad in Quito, Ecuador.

Painter Nancy Waldron Exploring with Paint

Nancy Waldron came to Tehachapi in 1998 from San Jose California, unaware that her life was to take on a whole new adventure as a watercolor artist.  Previously she created art in oil and acrylics.
 
She started taking watercolor classes with local artist David Reinhart and fell in love with the way colors blend on the paper and create beautiful values and hues.  She is mostly self-taught and takes workshops for the sheer joy of discovering new things to do with watercolors, even while she has established herself as a talented and creative artist here in Tehachapi.

His broad exposure from his antique business, professional development and antique appraisal practice guided him to a greater interest and appreciation for California Impressionism.

Weaver Janice Williams

Janice Williams

Janice Williams - A Talented Weaver Returns to the Festival

Janice Williams is local Kawaiisu Indian tribal member who returns to the festival to demonstrate basket weaving using locally harvested plants. Janice is the great-granddaughter of noted basketmaker Emma Williams, who is pictured on the Nuwa Indian mural on the side of Hitching Post Theater. Janice's brother Harold, a co-author of the recently published "Handbook of the Kawaiisu," is also pictured on the mural. Janice works with willow, deergrass and other native materials as she practices this ancient craft of the Tehachapi Mountains.

As a former U.S. Navy Submarine fleet ‘detailer’, Penny staffed the Navy’s sub-fleet with crew assignments. She joined the Star Trek Deep Space Nine decorating department in 1991 and set about stocking Quark’s bar with it’s colorful assortment of glassware. Penny soon hired as the personal assistant to the production designer of Star Trek, which then led to becoming the art department coordinator of Star Trek for the next 18 years. During her off hours Penny attended art school at Otis Parsons and earned her certificates as designer and illustrator.

Leila Kleiman Leila Kleiman

Leila Kleiman was born in Chicago. She attended college in Arizona, and kept traveling West – teaching school.  She made her commitment to art in graduate school, a place with enough latitude to try many forms of expression.

Kleiman began her career as a traditional oil painter, first studying with Harry Mintz and later with Gilah Yellin Hirsch. Then the opportunity to study with Allan Hauser brought her to stone and the 3-D world of the sculptor. Stone teaches the removal of that which is not inherently necessary, leaving the form to emerge from the background. The effect was to emphasize line over color, changing the focus of her artwork.
