Potter Randy Baker
Made of Clay
Randy Baker is a local artist, born and raised in Bakersfield, California. His education of the potters wheel began early in high school, which carried on into junior college and eventually as a volunteer at Cal State Bakersfield under Joyce Kohl, the ceramic sculpture instructor.
The natural environment is his biggest influence. As a child he grew up fishing and hiking the creeks of the Sierra Nevada and learned to appreciate our natural landscapes, wildlife and the ancient people who once lived there. There is nothing much more awesome to him than the wind
swept stone arches of the desesrt Southwest, the beauty of the Napali coast of Kauai or a hike to the top of Tehachapi Mountain. The connection between pottery and our earth is something he finds most rewarding.
His joy is creating something out of a lump of clay that can be used or be viewed as a piece of art.
